Fighting game fans in the Philippines have another Pinoy player to cheer on as the next member of the Imperium Pro Team is for the fighting games division. As promised, after the announcement of their League of Legends team and their Starcraft 2 player, Imperium announced the third member of their roster —Garret ‘IPT.Garret’ Baluyot for their fighting division. Baluyot is one of the top Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players in the Philippines.
According to the announcement on Imperium Pro Team’s Facebook page, he will also be one of the first professional Philippine-based fighting game players ever. Upon asking Imperium owner Raphael Gancayo and manager Dan Liamco, I was told that Baluyot is currently focused on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but there is a possibility that he can also pick up other titles.
While some people would assume that fighting games aren’t as popular as Starcraft 2 or League of Legends, there is actually a rather active fighting game community in the Philippines and quite a number of them frequent Imperium. I personally witnessed the energetic community when I attended their grand opening on December 12, 2013.
The Imperium Pro Team still has one more player to go. Any thoughts or guesses? Let us know in the comments section below.
